North Queensland Games
On Saturday the 25th June to Sunday the 26th June, Cairns hosted the biennial North Queensland Games. These games encompass many sports and events, and is run very much like the Olympics.
On Friday, there was a march at the Strand in Cairns, as a part of it's opening ceremony. On Saturday and Sunday, the Whitsunday Athletics Club came to represent our club and we pit our skills against many other clubs.
The Masters age group (30 - 109), all competed at the same time. There were lots of medal opportunities due to less numbers of athletes in our age groups. I had a wonderful time there, and got to catch up with lots of other athletes that I had met at other events such as Bowen Athletics Carnival and the Townsville All Comers and Queensland Masters games.
A great result from the Whitsunday Athletics Club athletes who competed in the North QLD Games this year! 17 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze & 1 participation. What a haul! Well done all.
