A MEET for the Whitsunday Athletic Club still went ahead despite the wet weather conditions on Sunday. Over the school holiday several parents in the club completed a course in IAAF kids athletics, which is a team event for children of all ages.

The main objective of this course was to encourage children to play and use up their energy in order to stay healthy and fit. These various events are age group specific and each has a time limit so they can rotate to each event accordingly. Teamwork is a basic principle of IAAF Kids Athletics.

On Sunday the children took part in activities including skipping, frisbee throwing, overhead backward throwing, knee throwing, cross hopping, formula one and to finish off the day eight minute endurance races. The children had a wonderful time competing in teams throughout the morning.

The wet weather didn't affect the club and the modified athletics circuit was well received over the weekend. Training is on Wednesday every week at 3.45pm at Stanbury Street, Proserpine (Proserpine High School grounds) until 5pm and club days are on every Sunday at 9am.

Athletics is for all ages new members are always welcome. For more information contact president Judi Worrall on 0400 138 446.
