WHITSUNDAY Athletics Club broke records for the number of athletes that took part in their Pentathlon in Proserpine on Saturday.
A total of 111 competitors took part in the event from nine clubs that travelled from as far south as Rockhampton, east to Emerald and north to Townsville.
The Pentathlon consisted of five events for each age group that ranged from under-6s to Masters in the 60m, 80m, 100m 200m, and 800m track events, long jump, discus and shot put.
Club president Judi Worrall thanked all the volunteers for their wonderful help and support in making the event such a success.
"For our Hamilton Island athletes and also some of our own, this was their first carnival and they all did a wonderful job competing for the first time," she said.
"I'm very proud of their efforts and all our clubs achievements.
"Our youngest age group of under-6s had a total of 22 athletes starting at just four years-of-age."
Four-years-age marshal Lynn Smith said "the children were fantastic with their patience as we worked our way through our five events.
"A job well done by our upcoming little champions," she said.
The athletes will continue their training days on Thursdays at 3.45-5pm and have six more weeks left of Sunday club days for this year.
It's not too late for new athletes to join at a reduced membership fee.
